Enabling smooth passenger flow at the Delhi metro

With 1.4 billion people, India is not only set to be the most populous country in the world, but it will also soon be home to one of the world’s youngest populations. Much of this growth takes place across urban areas leading to traffic jams, smog and housing shortages. To keep pace with this growth, the government is investing in modernisation schemes, infrastructure efficiency and green energy. Among these, infrastructure development for rail is of topmost priority for all major cities.

Delhi, which is one of the startup hubs of India, accounts for more than half of the country’s total metro lines.  Approximately 3 million passengers commute via the metro daily, avoiding the pollution, congestion and risk of road accidents.  The Delhi metro, with 286 stations covering approximately 390 kilometers, is turning to Halma company Avire to improve the ease of travel.

Avire’s simple, safer and smarter solutions improve passengers’ flow at the Delhi metro.

Our safety companies are helping improve passengers’ flow at the Delhi metro by developing and implementing world-class safety solutions. Avire and its sister companies, Memco and TL Jones have supplied 185 3D elevator door safety systems and 600 dot matrix elevator displays for installation in over 200 elevators throughout the Delhi metro system. In addition to door safety solutions, Avire has also installed three displays for each of the elevators: one in the interior and one on each of the elevators’ two landings.

“Our solution for the Delhi metro system puts passengers’ safety and ease at the topmost priority,” said Mohammad Wasim, India Sales Manager, Avire. “We applied the 3D solution through two independent detection systems. The first is a light curtain of infra-red beams crisscrossing the elevator car’s doors, and the second is a 3D proximity detection system in the landing zone. Whenever an object interrupts the direct beams or reflections within the 3D detection zone, it triggers the system and re-opens the elevator doors, thus enabling a safe, smooth and fast movement of people.”

Wasim added, “One of the key features of our 3D system (also known as Pana40+) detection solutions is that it is customisable to suit a variety of elevator doors, including both center-opening and side-opening doors. This makes our solution apt for any kinds of infrastructure.”

Halma company Avire’s solutions are used in over four million buildings worldwide. These include airports, train stations, hospitals, offices and commercial centers. Avire is made up of market-leading brands—Microkey, E-motive, Janus, Memco, TL Jones, Rath, each with their own unique histories and specialties. They have been creating products that meet and exceed industry standards, provide reliable and trusted technology to customers and help make the world safer for millions of people every day.
